Comete Febbraio 2014

Iniziamo oggi questo nuovo appuntamento mensile su Astronomia.com dove ci dedicheremo esclusivamente alle comete visibili nel nostro emisfero.

Parleremo ovviamente di tutte quelle comete che possono osservarsi visualmente (magari con l’ausilio di un binocolo) e sia ( soprattutto oserei dire) a livello di fotografia astronomica dato che la magnitudine che “accompagna” questi importantissimi oggetti è talvolta effimera e ostica.

Seguiremo nel corso del mese l’evolversi delle effemeridi con la loro posizione apparente nel cielo direttamente in questo thread così da averlo sempre aggiornato e a disposizione di tutti i lettori del portale.

Questo mese parleremo di 3 comete, tralasciando volutamente la Brewinghton che, transitando nella costellazione di Andromeda prima e dei Pesci poi con un mag. + 9.78 si appresta ad un lento ed inesorabile declino di magnitudine dopo aver passato il perielio il 12 dicembre 2013.

LOVEJOY:

Scoperta da Terry Lovejoy il 27 novembre 2011 è una cometa radente della famiglia di Kreutz, passata al perielio il 25 dicembre 2013 arrivata a "soli" 0.4 Unità Astronomiche (UA) dalla Terra e a 0.8 UA dal Sole è arrivata a brillare tra il mese di novembre e di dicembre addirittura a + 4.7 è ancora oggi un’oggetto binoculare rintracciabile con difficoltà nella costellazione di Ophiuco con una magnitudine che si attesta +12.7, l’effimera magnitudine e il suo sorgere poco prima del Sole non aiuta l’osservazione visuale…. Di tutt’altri risultati invece l’approccio fotografico. Sarà visibile per quasi tutto il 2014 nei cieli italiani fino ad ottobre quando la cometa svanirà!

C/2012 X1 (LINEAR):

attualmente questa è la cometa che più lascia sperare per il mese di febbraio, scoperta nel dicembre 2012 dal progetto LINEAR (Lincoln Laboratory Near-Earth Asteroid Research), era prevista inizialmente come una debole cometa di magnitudine +11, quando circa a metà del mese di ottobre, il 21 per l'esattezza, un astrofilo giapponese scriveva di averla osservata addirittura con una magnitudine di + 8.5, visione poi confermata dagli osservatori professionali... questo significa che la Linear ha avuto un "salto" di luminosità di ben 250 volte causato da un'improvviso outburst.

Transita al perielio il 21/02/2014 a 1.59 UA dal Sole con una magnitudine che dovrebbe toccare i +10.07, mentre la distanza minima dalla Terra la dovrebbe toccare il 28 giugno a 1.55 UA, transita nel mese di febbraio tra le costellazioni del Serpente e dell’ Aquila

290P/JAGER:

E' un'altra cometa interessante, scoperta nel 1998 da un'astrofilo austriaco fa parte delle comete della famiglia di Giove con un periodo di circa 15 anni. E' arrivata ad una distanza minima dalla Terra di 1.28 UA il 10 gennaio 2014 e a 2.15 UA dal Sole il 12 marzo del 2014, da seguire, quindi, soprattutto in questo mese quando raggiungerà il perielio con una magnitudine stimata in + 10.51.

In febbraio la rintracceremo nella costellazione di Auriga:

TENIAMOLA D’OCCHIO:

già teniamola d’occhio……

sappiamo benissimo che le stime di magnitudine quando parliamo di oggetti come le comete è sempre un rischio, però seguiremo nei prossimi mesi la cometa C/2013 V5 (OUKAIMEDEN) che per il 28 settembre 2014 viene data addirittura ad una magnitudine di + 1.78, sarà la cometa dell’anno?

Comunque non saltate sulle sedie….. alle nostre latitudini sarà visibile solo poco prima dell’alba e piuttosto bassa all’orizzonte…… ma ne riparleremo!

attualmente viaggia con una magnitudine di + 16.93!

Continuiamo a seguire queste comete con le effemeridi e la posizione del cielo, prendendo atto della Lovejoy oramai al limite di osservabilità nella costellazione di Ophiuco subito prima dell'alba.
Da seguire nonostante tutto (sopratutto il meteo!) la Linear che continua nella stessa costellazione a crescere di magnitudine e la Jager in Auriga stabile con un'interessante luminosità......

talloniamo le comete proposte questo mese osservando come la Lovejoy perda più di 1 magnitudine al mese, ormai davvero fuori portata degli osservatori visuali, confidiamo negli astrofotografi.
mentre la Linear promette bene all'alba, non ci rimane che la piccola e condensata Jager in Auriga.....
